At last week’s meeting we discussed a Scottish classic, The Cone-Gatherers by Robin Jenkins.
The story is set on a Scottish estate during the Second World War. The main theme is about good and evil in mankind.
The general view was that it made grim reading. Within that there were some people who thought it was very well written, especially in regard to the rural background, but others found it just too ‘dour and miserable’!
I have promised a more cheerful topic for my next choice.
